March 23, 2020

This is an important update from The Energy Cooperative President & CEO, Todd Ware regarding COVID-19.

These are unprecedented times. Governor DeWine and Dr. Acton’s “stay at home” order, which begins Monday March 23rd, at 11:59 pm, is one more step towards trying to contain the COVID-19 virus.

At The Energy Cooperative, we are dedicated to safety. In addition to keeping the lights on, the gas flowing, and propane tanks full, we keep the safety of our employees and members as priority number one. Another commitment that may not have been mentioned to you prior to this pandemic, is our employee’s health. It is imperative that we help them minimize social contact and give them and their families the best opportunity to avoid COVID-19.

In response to the most recent Ohio orders, I have taken the following additional steps to protect our employees and our 65,000+ members.

  • Our drive thru at 1500 Granville Road will now be closed indefinitely.
  • The drop box at our Granville Road office and the Utica Service Center will remain available 24/7.
  • The vast majority of our employees are working from home.

And as a reminder from my previous communication, we are continuing the following actions:

  • Visitors are prohibited from entering our buildings.
  • We closed the Granville Road lobby on March 17th.
  • We have instituted a safety protocol for our field employees giving them instructions when having contact with our members in person.

Utilities are a critical part of life, especially in times of crisis. We know, because we have been there before, and we are there now. There may be outages or service disruptions, but rest assured we will be working hard to continuously provide our members with safe and reliable energy.

Finally, I want to thank our employees for their incredible commitment to The Energy Cooperative and our member communities. These are difficult times with a great deal of uncertainty. Together we will get through this.  I look forward to the day when we resume normal operations.
