Make the change today. Just Drive.
Safety is our top priority at The Energy Cooperative. After seeing an increase in close calls as our employees work near roadways, we want to bring awareness to distracted driving. Its time to make the change, not only for your safety, but for the safety of everyone in our communities.
Distracted driving is a public health issue that affects us all. The latest National Safety Council statistics show motor vehicle fatalities are up 6 percent from 2015, most of which stem from distracted driving.
Distracted driving ranges from using a hand-held cell phone to taking a bite of a burger, and it even extends to the hands-free devices in our vehicles. Eighty percent of drivers mistakenly believe that hands-free devices are safer than hand-held, when more than 30 studies show that hands-free is not risk-free.
Each accident caused by distracted driving is 100 percent preventable. From cellphones to dashboard infotainment systems to evolving voice command features — they all pose a threat to our safety. Just one second of your attention is all it takes to change a life forever.
Tips for Safe Driving
- Turn off your cell phone. Put it out of reach.
- Send and read messages before you start driving.
- Know where you are going before you hit the road.
- Social media can wait.
- Do not call or message people if you know they are driving.
