New Natural Gas Install Process

What are the steps to install new gas service?

We do not install service lines. However, we require this work to be completed by a DOT-certified plumber/contractor. Attached is a list of DOT certified contractors/plumbers. If you use a plumber/contractor not on this list, please have them call before installing the service line. The service line will go from your home to within 5-10 ft of the road/service line.

** For any new installation, replacement, or repair work, we are working to eliminate the installation of all stab or coupling type connections. All tie-in work on service or jurisdictional gas lines must be performed by an approved fusion method (electrofusion, socket fusion, or butt fusion).

You or your plumber can pick up the meter bar at our Hebron location at 120 O’Neill Dr 43025. There is no cost for the meter bar.

Before you or your plumber comes to our shop to pick up the meter bar, you must talk with your appliance installer to determine what pressure you want us to deliver into your house or structure. The most common delivery pressure is 4 oz. (the same size as a 7-inch water column or 7” WC). Some new homes have smaller piping and require 2 PSIG delivery. You and your plumber must understand the delivery pressure you need to serve the property before picking up the meter bar.

**The meter bar must be visible from the road. Please have the plumber/contractor install the meter bar either on the side or in the front of your home/building. If the home/building is more than 300 ft from the road, then the meter bar must be installed within 100 ft of the road.

You can drop the paperwork off at our Hebron location or email it to kwillison@theenergycoop.com. We need the “Energy Cooperative Service Line – Materials” form (front & back), OQ Qualification Statement, and Drug & Alcohol Consortium letter. The property will not be added to the tap list until these items are received.

Once your service line is installed, contact us. We will schedule the inspection and get you on our tap schedule. We do not charge a fee to tap the line.
The tap schedule is currently 4 weeks out. This timeframe, however, is not guaranteed. Taps are contingent on weather, emergencies, and any unforeseen circumstances.
Keep in mind that we can still move forward with the tap. However, we will not install your meter until you are ready.

You must call to schedule your meter to be installed after the tap is completed or once you are ready. One natural gas appliance must be properly connected/plumbed into meter bar before meter can be set and gas service turned on. Please note that CSST piping must be properly bonded. Billing begins when we install the meter.

Step 4: Contractor should complete all necessary paperwork.

Step 5: Member or contractor contacts us to schedule your inspection.

Step 6: Member or contractor contacts us to install your meter.
